Lake Harriet Journal
For much of 2010 I had taken to carrying my Canon G11 whenever I walked around Lake Harriet. I photographed on occasion during those walks, and the number of moderately interesting or artistic photos began to add up. The initial selection totaled nearly three hundred images. For this presentation I’ve trimmed the collection to thirty-two.

Milfoil Warrior -- This floating conveyor belt is used to rip the nasty Asian milfoil from the lake bottom shallows and then, as will be seen in later photos, deliver it to a dump truck to be disposed of. As little as a leaf or stem of the plant is sufficient to infest a lake, which is what happened in Lake Harriet, probably a decade ago. Budget cuts reduced use of the machine, leading to longer periods and wider swatches of the lake remaining covered by the weed.

A project of the Minneapolis Parks Foundation, "Minne" travels from lake to lake within the city. A treat for children going round the lake with their parents.

Keeping Warm -- I totally love this photo. I'd been waiting all summer for something like this.
